AFTERCARE

The tattoo process doesn’t end when you leave the studio. The healing process is a very important part of getting tattooed and there are a few key things to consider once you’re inked and this process should last about 2 weeks.

Washing Your Tattoo

You should wash your tattoo as soon as you remove any bandages or covering with unscented antibacterial soap, using a sink or shower. Avoid applying the soap directly to the tattoo. Using only your hands, wash gently. Rinse off any soap and air dry or pat dry with a paper towel. Please don’t submerge your tattoo in water until it is healed.

Covering Your Tattoo

It is important to protect your tattoo whilst it is healing using a plastic covering or second skin, such as Saniderm. It’s especially important to use a covering at night, when sleeping, or when the tattoo would be covered by clothing. We would suggest allowing time to let your tattoo ‘breathe’ and get air by having it uncovered when appropriate, unless using a second skin, which should remain attached at all times.

Healing

After 2-3 days you may apply some unscented moisturiser to your tattoo to keep the area from getting dry. After a couple of days into the healing process, your tattoo might start to feel very dry and itchy. This is a natural part of the process and means your tattoo is healing. Using unscented moisturiser can help with the itching and there are also products available to help with this part of the tattoo. Please don’t pick any scabs that may form and keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight, avoiding any form of sunbathing or tanning beds.

Infection

In the unlikely event of infection, please contact your doctor. Signs of infection include:

  • Sensation of heat at the site

  • Redness and swelling

  • Throbbing pain or spreading pain

  • Discharge, possibly a green, yellow or grey pus
